Rudimentary Peni

Banda de punk rock y deathrock britanica formada a principios de los 80's , y de tendencia politica anarquista, mantenian harta comunicacion con la gente de Crass y si discografica.
Liderados por Nick Blinko, basicamente la banda estaba enfocada en los ideales anarkopunks basados en una puesta de escena y letras oscuras, ataudes, cadaveres, harta depresion, y muerte en varias formas.

Orchid

Excelente tru Screamo nenas. y no se rasguen las vestiduras, esto es mas dado por el lado del emo DIY, considerados por los criticos (que saben mucho) como los pioneros del sonido screamo, presentan harto contenido filosofico en sus temas.
Comenzaron en 1997 y se separaron en el 2002 ( :( que penita no?).
Durante esa epoca lanzaron 4 discos (los que colgue en el blog) y algunos splits con otras bandas (que no publique pero tengo pensado hacerlo).
En todo caso tras su disolucion nacen bandas como Panthers, Wolves , Bucket full of theeth, etc.
Ahora quedando solo como una banda leyenda dentro del screamo.

Rancid

Rancid fue formada en el 91 por Tim Amstrong (quien terminaba de desintoxicarse), Brett Reed y Matt Freeman, que dejó la banda en el 2006 para ser reemplazado por Branden S. En 1993, Lars Frederiksen (sí, sí, el de Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards) se unió a la banda cuando estaban buscando 2da guitarra (en realidad Tim le pidió que lo sea, pero el lo rechazó, luego Tim le dijo a Billie Joe Amstrong, que no es pariente de Tim ni nada, pero también lo rechazó, así qe Lars cambió de opinión y se unió).

Su primera grabación fue el EP en 1992 y el año siguiente sacaron su primer álbum, Rancid. Let's Go sale en el 94 y tiene gran acogida, pero no tanto como el ...And Out Come the Wolves del 95, el cual se hace famoso con "Time Bomb" y "Ruby Soho". En el 98 sale Life Won't Wait que es tiene estilos variados. Rancid (2do álbum con ese nombre) sale en el 2000 y es el primero que se realiza en Hellcat Records, luego sacan en el 2002 un Split con NoFx, dónde Rancid toca y canta las canciones de NoFx y viceversa. En 2002 graban Indestructible, pero lo lanzan en el 2003.

Hum

Siguiendo con los aportes de grandes bandas alternativas de los 90's traigo ahora una banda mostra que fue una de las pioneras en su genero.
Hum es de Champaign Illinois, inicialmente formado por como Andy Switzky (guitarista y voz principal),Matt Talbott(guittarrita principal),Akis Boyatzis (bajista) y Bryan St. Pere (baterista), firmaron para el sello 12 inch records grabaron su primer en 1989 demo "Is Like Kissing an Angel (She Said)" con el productor "Steve Albini" donde obtuvieron un sonido caracteristico entre el punk y el metal que seria la base de su sonido en sus proximos discos. Grabaron despues su album debut "Fillet Show" con un sonido mas cerca a bandas Post Hardcore de finales de los 80's y con algunos desvios sonoros hacia el Alternativo, pero con nada de lo que se haya escuchado antes, Matt Talbott tenia una vision sobre la banda acerca de desviarce hacia un sonido Space Rock tipo My Bloody Valentine tal como se muestra en el EP "Hello Kitty" esto trajo la renuncia de Andy Switzky y Akis Boyatzis, Matt Talbott recluto a un fan de la banda Tim Lash como guitarra y a Jeff Dimpsey como bajo. Ya con la nueva formacion graban "Electra 2000" un disco de culto para muchos y donde es notable la influencia de los Smashing Pumkins de la era Gish aunque le dan un toque mas progresivo y pesado, este disco trajo la atencion de RCA y los contratan para grabar "You'd Prefer an Astronaut", disco el cual causaria el despego comercial de la banda y los coronarian como una de las bandas pioneras del Space Rock.
En 1998 graban "Downward Is Heavenward" considerado el mejor disco de la banda y sin duda uno de los mejores de los 90's, con un sonido muy particular e independiente, la opresion de la disquera acerca de su calendario de giras y el deseo de que la banda realice un disco comercial, hacen que Hun se tome un "respiro" hasta el 2000 donde se separan. Tim Lash funda Glifted, Matt Talbott funda centaur, ambos con disqueras independientes. Lastima que nunca se podran reunir para realizar un album pero de vez en cuando tocan en vivo.

The Black Rose Phantoms

Hacia tiempo que queria hacer esta entrada, es una de mis bandas favoritas, sobretodo porque tienen a un contrabajista muy bueno que toca rapidisimo, por otro lado los solos de guitarra que se presentan entre canciones son agradables.
Musicalmente combina elementos del psychobilly new school, hardcore punk e incluso metal. No es de extrañar entonces que el look que presentan sea un combiancion de los estereotipos de cada movimiento.
Formado en Long Beach California por el guitarrista Grim Phantom, para el 2003 ya estaria formada la banda y rotando en el circulo rockero californiano. Comienzan abriendo en la gira de Nekromatix, y despues producen su demo "Phantasies from the catacombs".
Para el 2005 lanzan su segundo demo "far from heaven", comienzan a tener presentaciones con bandas como Pistol Grip, Love Equals Death, The Briggs, Take the Crown, Left Alone, y Mad Sin.
Para el 2007 presentan su disco debut "Beyond the wall of sleep" uno de los mejores discos que he escuchado.
Resientemente salio "Love you more dead" un disco que trae 3 covers, donde muestran su lado mas punk rocker y una cancion adelanto de su nuevo material.
En conclusion, una buena recomendacion para aquellos que no han escuchado psychobilly pero gustan de punk rock.
